Giovanni Matera researches the ways a community makes room for a newcomer.
He is currently studying the organization of asylum support and community psychiatry in Greece and Switzerland, as a form of hospitality. He is using three research fields – pragmatic sociology of hospitality, sociology of psychiatry and the research stream on community context and mental health.
Using sociology of valuation and evaluation as a frame, Giovanni is looking at social inequalities with an eye to their public dimension as well as on the intimate scale of self-coordination.
